SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners flag was raised atop the Space Needle on Thursday to celebrate the team making it into the postseason.
Former M’s catcher and Mariners Hall of Fame member Dan Wilson did the honors before this weekend’s American League Wild Card Series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Seattle has not been in the MLB playoffs since 2001.
Postseason celebrations are continuing throughout the week.
The Mariners will be hosting watch parties for fans for the Wild Card Series games at T-Mobile Park on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, if necessary.
In addition, iconic buildings throughout Seattle will light up blue in celebration of the postseason. The buildings include the Seattle Convention Center, Columbia Tower, Seattle Great Wheel, Pacific Science Center, Lumen Field, Rainier Square, Russell Investments Center, T-Mobile’s headquarters, Hyatt Olive 8, The Westin, Sheraton Grand Seattle, and Courtyard Seattle Downtown/Lake Union.
