In a recently released list, ESPN has named Ken Griffey Jr. the 13th greatest MLB player of all time.
The sports network looked at players from the major leagues and Negro leagues, dating back to the late 19th century.
Baseball experts based their choices on a player’s record, Hall of Fame status, peak performance and overall contributions to the national pastime.
After matching up players head-to-head and voting more than 20,000 times, the players were ranked by the percentage they were chosen over other players.
Ken Griffey Jr. was noted as “the most popular player of the past 30 years.”
After reaching the major leagues at the age of 19, he played with his dad on the Mariners outfield and made some of the most amazing catches of all time.
He played for 22 years, a 13-time All-Star and hit 630 home runs in his career.
He also won 10 Gold Glove Awards and tied the record for most consecutive games with a home run with eight.
Griffey Jr. was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016 with 99.32% of the vote.
Additional players that made the list and played for Mariners included Adrian Beltre (97), Ichiro Suzuki (46), Alex Rodriguez (26), Randy Johnson (24), and Rickey Henderson (23).
