The Seattle Seahawks have released offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, according to an announcement by head coach Mike Macdonald on his weekly radio show on Seattle Sports 710AM on Monday.

Macdonald stated the decision was made due to a difference in vision for the team’s offense.

“It’s really as simple as, I felt like the direction our offense was going was different than the vision I had for our team, and I felt like it was a necessary decision at this point,” Macdonald explained.

He acknowledged Grubb’s abilities, highlighting that “Ryan’s a heck of a football coach,” and mentioning the offensive achievements made this year.

Macdonald cited quarterback Geno’s career highs and the team’s situational play, also noting that Jax had “a great year.”

He continued, “So we did a lot of great things, it’s just that my vision for our offense just ultimately was different from where I thought Ryan thought it was going. So we respect the heck out of him, we wish him the best.”

Macdonald emphasized that the decision was not easy. “These are tough decisions to make. These are really tough decisions to make, but the team comes first, and I just felt like it was best for the team… I think we just needed to go in a different direction, and that’s why we ultimately made the move.”

When asked about the search for a new offensive coordinator, Macdonald said the team plans to move quickly but will also be thorough in finding the right person for the role.

“We’re going to open it up,” he stated. “We’re going to do our research and be thorough with it. We want to be efficient, we want to move quickly, but we want to be smart as well. We’re just looking for the right fit on the type of person that’s going to come in and lead our offense. Not that we weren’t aligned with Ryan, but definitely looking for alignment and shared vision about how we want to operate.”
