Lower Spokane Street Bridge reopens to traffic

SEATTLE — The Lower Spokane Street Bridge opened back up to vehicle traffic, pedestrians, and bicycle riders Tuesday afternoon.

The bridge closed last Wednesday, June 20 after inspectors found a hydraulic fluid leak during a routine inspection. SDOT closed the bridge to “protect the safety of travelers and mitigate costly cumulative damages.”

Crews completed several test openings on the bridge and cleared out all of the detour signs on Tuesday, according to the Seattle Department of Transportation.

SDOT says it’ll release details later this week on the damaged piston that prompted the bridge’s closure.
