TACOMA, Washington — Tolls on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge are set to go up starting July 1, the Washington State Transportation Commission announced Tuesday.
For the average driver, here’s how rates will look:
- Good To Go! pass: $2.75 now | $4 on July 1
- Cash: $4 now | $5 on July 1
- Pay-by-mail: $5.50 now | $6 on July 1
More information on toll increases is available on the Washington State Department of Transportation's website.
From the Transportation Commission:
“Because the Tacoma Narrows Bridge was financed with an escalating debt structure to minimize the initial impact on bridge users, debt payments rise over time and require additional toll revenue. In the 2007-2009 biennium the state paid $41 million in debt payments, but in the current 2011-2013 biennium debt payments for the bridge reach nearly $90 million.”
The commission held two public input meetings on the rate increases last month in Port Orchard and Gig Harbor.
