How to prepare for traveling back to Western Washington

We're getting ready for snow, ice, wind, rain and some major headaches at both Stevens Pass and Snoqualmie Pass.

Monday afternoon, traction tires are advised for people going over Stevens Pass.

There were no restrictions for drivers on Snoqualmie Pass Monday afternoon, but that was expected to change soon as the weather changed.

As far as the number of cars on the roads, the Washington State Department of Transportation said things should stay relatively clear for people going east later on Monday. The worst of that traffic was Monday afternoon, WSDOT staff said.

Drivers coming to western Washington were expected to face slow traffic Monday afternoon. Stop and go traffic is expected from Cle Elum to North Bend until at least 4 p.m.

Ferry riders also were told to plan for delays on major routes. Shortly before 2 p.m. Monday, the Edmonds-Kingston run had at least a two-hour wait.

Sea-Tac airport saw heavy traffic in the morning for those departing Seattle, and the traffic will shift to the arrivals terminal during the evening hours. Drivers can avoid the congestion by taking International Boulevard to enter the garage from the back, picking people up on the departures level, or meeting people at a light rail station instead of the airport.

Monday afternoon could be your last chance for a couple of days to make it through Snoqualmie Pass without serious delays.
